I got into edge parity issue with 4x4 initially but I was able to avoid it totally by using a procedure and have been successful in avoiding edge parity. Is it usual to not to get into 4x4 edge parity at all? Solving the centers requires you to get aquainted with the color layout. The color layout is found by observing the Corner pieces or by knowing that the Rubik's Cube follows a certain color layout.

To solve the Centers, swap two Center pieces at a time from adjacent faces until all six colors are grouped. After solving one color, remember to follow the color layout above when choosing the next color and face. Follow this sequence to swap the pieces.

Continue swapping Center pieces until al 6 faces 24 Center pieces are solved in the correct color layout. Identify an Edge piece that needs to be paired. Find the other Edge piece with the same two colors. If the Edges are not directly across from each other, follow this sequence to line them up:. The outside layer turns will not scramble the solved Center pieces.

The parity fixes are in steps 4 and 7 of this guide. Solve the Middle Layer, treating the two inside layers as one. This is where the first parity may ccur when following the 3x3 Solution Guide.

If there are 1 or 3 Edge pairs on the UP face, then hold the Cube as shown and follow this sequence to fix the parity:. If there are 0, 2, or 4 Edge pairs on the UP face, then continue with the steps outlined in the 3x3 Solution Guide. This is where the second parity may occur. If there are no YELLOW Edge pairs in the correct position, follow the sequence below either once or twice until at least one Edge pair is positioned correctly.

To fix the parity and solve the Cube, determine which two Edge pairs need to be swapped and follow the corresponding sequence. Use the diagrams above and below to get to know each Face and Layer of your cube. 4x4 Yau Method: 3-2-3 Edge Pairing (+ special cases)

YES, it works. I found it along with many other algorithms by using Cube Explorer for the 3x3x3. Unlike many 4x4x4 OLL parity algorithms which people have gotten from 3x3x3 solvers, this one was not obvious to translate to the 4x4x4. As you can see, it has some very unusual turns; and it is very unique!

If you're using the reduction method, you should be pairing up ALL of the edges before starting the 3x3x3 stage. If you're not using the reduction method, this is a parity case which you have to solve either directly in one algorithm, or with a parity algorithm plus a 3-cycle.Forums New posts Search forums.

Thread starter Cride5 Start date Aug 25, Cride5 Premium Member. As a ZZ user looking to get into 4x4, I've been trying to find a nice way to solve the 4x4 by doing EO after reduction. My inspecction time for EO without the line is probably quick enough for this approach to be practical. So what I'm looking for is the shortest sequence of moves which change an odd-number of flipped dedges into an even number, while maintaining the edge pairs and centres.

The alg must not permute the centres relative to each otherbut may permute the dedges and corners in any way. I'm not sure if this is the best way, but my preferred system for measuring 4x4 movecounts from a speedsolving perspective is block turn metric.Continuing with the reduction method in order to solve the 4x4x4 Rubiks Revenge Cubeafter solving the 6 Centres the next step is to Pair up the Edges.

Double Edges stand for pairs of edge cubies that make up a logical edge cubie of a Standard Cube. There are 12 Dedges, each with two cubies of the same combination, so we have 24 edge cubies in total. There are several ways to pair up the edges to form Dedges, here the simplest one will be explained in detail.

When you have solved the Centres and paired up the Edges, you can finish off the cube in the same way as a 3x3x3 Standard Cube. Make sure when doing this move that you have an unsolved edge group in the position shown as light gray. If you need help, see examples here. To solve the last two Dedge Pieces, locate them in the Front Face, with both pairs of Edge Pieces same color in same face. If the pieces are like it is shown, make these moves the colors are only for reference :.

How to solve a 4x4 Rubik's Cube

Comments are not for promoting your articles or other sites. I have been able to apply the method used in the 3x3 for the two steps before I get to the one last corner. When I am starting, I still have to figure it out the centers by myself, without any algorithms or such. I do not see a problem. My 8 yr old son has become a cube fan. I personally cannot solve it, but he can do the 3x3 and is now working on the 4x4.

Here's the question - He says he has tried using his 3x3 approach on the 4x4 and gets to a point where he solves the top three layers, with just the bottom layer remaining. This seems to be a different approach than that advocated above. Can it be solved his way?

I don't want him wasting weeks on approach that is a dead end If I understand correctly, you have two Dedge pieces in the bottom of the cube to permute.

I sometimes have a problem when doing the last edge pieces. What is the algorithm to fix this? I am really sorry I didn't see the page clearly you have mentioned the parity error. My bad.
