Graduate students fill many paid teaching assistant positions, but there are often undergraduate positions available. In addition to talking with Psych Student Support Services KMBLyou may ask professors whether they have paid undergraduate teaching assistant positions available. Also, talk to students who are already teaching assistants and ask them about possibilities.
While some positions pay, most undergraduate students only earn credit for the experience. It is often best to approach the professors who have a positive opinion of your work or professors who have instructed you before. If you scored a 3, you will earn general credit toward the requirement of completing credits for graduation, but it will not substitute for Psych A score of 4 or 5 on the AP test will fulfill the Psych requirement.
There is no prescribed way to get involved in research, and it generally requires initiative on your part. In many cases, this is a false assumption. To make sure you don't miss out on valuable research opportunities, the key is to get started early! First, identify the professors you might want to work with. You can find out the research interests of the professors on the Psychology Department website. Psych Student Support Services can give advice on how to best approach professors that you are interested in working with.
Read some of the published work of professors to make sure you are interested in the research that they are doing. You could also approach the professors directly to ask about their research and other literature that would better prepare you to work with them. Remember that it may not be easy to arrange an opportunity to do research with a professor, much less the one you hope to work with, because there are far fewer professors than students.
For this reason, you should start early in your search for research experience. If the professors you really want to work with are too busy for a semester, you can approach them again the following semester. You might also consider working with a professor who is not your top choice as far as your research interests are concerned but with whom you would enjoy working, and in this way gain valuable experience.
Once professor has agreed to work with you, be responsible and follow through on your commitments. Do more than is asked, and volunteer for and expect to do tedious or menial work. You must show that you are sincere in your interest to do research before a professor is inclined to trust you with larger responsibilities.

Thus, capstones also present a unique opportunity to become better acquainted with a professor and his or her work. Capstone subjects vary from semester to semester and generally have a narrow focus. This covers everything covered in Chapter 14 of the textbook on Psychological Disorders. These are a set of notes taken from what was lectured on in class about Chapter 15 on Psychological Therapies. You are expected to complete all of the learning activities for each lesson in the order they are listed. Except for the first and last weeks, each of the lessons will follow the same pattern. Each lesson will begin with a chapter reading assignment followed by an open-book chapter quiz. Some of the weeks will require reading two chapters.
In addition to the reading, each week contains a presentation. These presentations contain interactive content that will help clarify difficult concepts in psychology. Take careful notes while you read and view these presentations.
These activities will prepare you to understand and complete the field reports, the field report discussion boards, and unit exams. You will be assessed on the content in the textbook and presentations. Each lesson will have a teach one another component. Using the discussion boards, you will share the results of your field reports with your classmates. The purpose of this discussion is two-fold: To 1 share your field-report findings so you can receive feedback in preparation for submission, and 2 provide constructive feedback on your classmates' field-reports.
The feedback you receive in these discussion boards will be included in your weekly final field report write ups. Read the discussion board activity directions for more specific information.
Field reports are intended for you to test psychological concepts found in each lesson. These informal reports are developed for you to gain a deeper understanding of specific principles. These field reports are divided in to two parts: 1 the report and sharing the results of your findings with the class in the discussion board and 2 the write up of your findings, which includes feedback you received on the discussion board.
The unit exams cover the content in that week's presentation. You will have 30 minutes to complete each exam. Although exams are open book and note, the time limit will make it difficult to do well if you do not thoroughly familiarize yourselves with the presentation material. Students may check their total number of points for all assignments and quizzes at any time using the "Grades" link on the course toolbar.I'll be online a little before and will be available after the class meeting.

The Psychology doctoral program offers a rigorous educational experience. The first four semesters provide broad coverage of the discipline of psychology and scientific research skills, and introduce students to the particular areas of emphasis offered in the program. During the first semester students select a faculty advisor and a dissertation committee. By the end of the second year in the program, all students complete a second year project and poster presentation.

While many APA programs currently prefer students to apply at the baccalaureate degree level, we welcome students with either a bachelors or masters degree. Deficiencies may be addressed when admitted.
